Bilge Pump

Stay Afloat with Bilge Pumps
Other than cars, the most desirable toy for the big boys would be boats. Whether you're the kind of guy who likes to go fast or if you are the kind who's laid back and just want to cruise, there would be an appropriate boat for you. Unlike riding cars where you are subject to numerous restrictions like traffic, pedestrians and other obstacles on the road, boats provide a certain kind of freedom that you wouldn't enjoy on automobiles.
Unfortunately, owning and maintaining a boat would require a person to spend huge amounts of money. The boat itself, unless you're planning to get a kayak or a wooden boat, would cost a lot. It could be more expensive than a car. That is why, as much as possible, it would be wise to maintain and keep your boat in good condition at all times. Otherwise, you might end up spending more for repairs.
Whether it's a kayak, a yacht, or a speed boat, it would be wise to install a bilge pump in your boat. Vessels like these, when moving on water and other liquids will acquire bilge. Bilge would be the liquid residue that collects at the bottom of the craft. Whether the liquid is oil, gasoline or water, letting its level rise might cause problems for the boat.
Bilge is normal for boats. Regardless of how well made the boat is or how sealed the parts are, the chances of water and other liquids getting in the vessel are high. If you think about it, water will be surrounding it. How could you avoid liquid from seeping in it?
There are open parts in the craft like the bar for the propeller, the rudders, and the hatch. Small amounts of water are sure to leak in them even if you seal them with oil or grease or gaskets. Eventually, those small amounts would collect to a huge amount if not removed from the boat consistently. More amounts would even be collected if you are taking your boat out on a rainy day or when waves are strong.
Removing the bilge manually on a regular basis is a tedious task. That is why it would be better to install a bilge pump to remove them for you.
There are two kinds of pumps: the manual pump and the motorized pump. The manual pump is advisable for small boats like kayaks and rowboats. If you are using a bigger boat, it would be wise to use motorized pumps.
Some pumps would have an automated switch that automatically turns the pump on when the bilge reaches a certain level. It sucks the liquid from the bottom of the boat and expels them out. This way, you can maintain the weight of the vessel preventing it from submerging.
What is important here is that the boat doesn't sink. Yes, bilge pumps also costs money but if you consider it, the money you will spend in installing the pump will ensure that your investment will stay afloat whenever you take it out for a ride.
