GPS topographic or inside or not?

I wonder if anyone can give me some suggestions on whether to a GPS or topographic maps of inland lakes ot nothing at all. I am looking at puchasing a GPS that is used for hiking and camping and road trips. What would you suggest. As I'm looking to buy Garmin is a Garmin Colorado or Oregan. Suggestions? What I need is something that is easy to handle with one hand. My plan is to mount the GPS on my bike and use that to walks, etc. This is the reason why he leaned toward the Oregan or Colorado
