Where I can turn off all power to my home?
I just bought a house that was built in 1992 and wanted to install a programmable thermostat. So I went to the fuse box to cut power to the heating / cooling circuit and found no clearly labeled for it. In That's when I flipped all the switches in the switch to "Off" and check the thermostat that was already in place. I still had the power and air conditioning unit was still running. So the question is where to search for either the main power to shut down the entire house or, alternatively, Where I can find a switch cut power to the heating / cooling? Did not find any other switch boxes in the house or I do not see any way to cut the AC of the outdoor unit.
That's surprising. Usually, the main switch is in the same closet where it is mounted the electric meter. From what you describe, it seems that you have a sub-panel (a panel auxiliary power is supplied from the main panel), if off all panel switches that did not kill his full power. Find the subway, and check the main switch panel. It will have a number on it, "100" or more. If unsuccessful, call your utility company. Usually going to be free and show you where closure.
