White-tailed by the numbers
One factor that affects deer movement more often and more consistently than any other, we all realize of this and are serious hunters starting to take notice. Do the sources of food, moon, rain or snow, or maybe the routine? Not quite. While the above may deer drawing, or otherwise affect the deer movement, the factor that replaces all is simple ..... temperature.
Even routine, we all know and believe is the optimal time to harvest money from a lifetime ..... can be turned off completely by warm weather. The question seems then is how hot it has to be further from the routine? Or rather, the cold can come before a white tail squat down to ride? Knowing the answers to these questions can make a difference and make their hours on the stand much more productive.
Make a mental note when he first saw the deer on a hunt - As "4:32 pm, 45 degrees, 3 6 point ball." Enter this information in your logbook after the day's hunt and absolutely start to see a pattern of temperature and movement of deer in a given area. Hunt camp and booth location must also be included in your log book for Hunters who hunt in different regions. Texas is different from Wisconsin and the stream funds are different peaks and affecting the movement of deer in these places. Deer in the regions North used to lower temperatures always have a different peak temperature window (for example, 35 to 48 degrees) that the deer in Georgia or Carolina South.
How many times have you walked back to the deer camp to hear all different stories and comments about the game of the day ..... the moon food, acorns are still falling, the routine has not started, etc etc, but I hear all the time, especially in the south, that is, "I think it is still too hot for the deer to move a lot! "In the north is more like," I was so cold, I could not sit still for longer ... too cold for the deer to move a lot! "The real question here is ..... How cold or hot it was and does it really affect deer movement?" The answer is a resounding "yes .... absolutely," and serious whitetail hunters high technology are taking the necessary steps to include this information in its bag of tricks for deer hunting.
Along with topographic maps, calculator lunar phase, peak activity cards, grunt calls, DOE bullet and all other equipment that throwing money once a year in hopes of getting a money monster hunters in the know are doing things like checking and layout factors such as wind speed and direction, humidity, moon phase and last but not least ..... temperature. Think about it ... you can check your topographical map and be in just the right funnel, and the call latest and greatest grunt or bleat, and the pattern of food may be in sight of your stand, and yes, even may be during the rut, but if it is too hot or too cold for the deer in your area, you're probably going to be disappointed. Countless articles have been written about the effects of temperature on deer movement ... Is not it time we listened.
Scientific study has indicated that the movement of deer in an area directly affected by temperature, and the window of the activity of the maximum temperature for the movement of deer varies by geographic area. In other words, what may be appropriate in Georgia is too hot in Pennsylvania. What makes you close in Minnesota Louisiana. Finally, there is a better way to collect this information and put it to use in their favor.
